The gulf oil spill

What on earth is going on? The accident occurred more than a month ago. It is almost at two months and to my knowledge it is still leaking. The president has now said that British Petroleum has the best technology to handle the situation.

You want a solution BP- Hire me. Put me in charge and I'll get it done. Even better- hire me to consult the guy in charge- put every resource available to stop this leak now. I am a risk, reliability, and safety consultant for NASA with over 10 years experience. I think a bunch of monkeys on LSD could come up with better solutions than I've heard coming from BP. I have heard for 10 years that off-shore drilling is safe and the oil companies have better technologies than NASA. I have also heard that this couldn't happen. Please hire me and I will sign a non-disclosure agreement and I will eat my hat if after a month with my help this leak has not stopped.

Even better the company I consult for (who contracts for NASA) has a whole reliablity and mission assurance team that can help and help today. (We are looking for work since the president of America decided to end American human space flight).

Or heck I'll do it for free and challenge you sir to a slap bet; your choice. The gauntlet has been thrown.

Or to President Obama- I have given the last 13 years in service to the space program as a consultant and you decided to cancel human space flight. I believe in this country and capitalism and corporations can to provide for the American people. We deserve better and I owe this country more than I have given. I can help- I know I can. Hire me as a government representative to oversee the oil companies- I already have a security clearance.

If you like what I wrote and agree- pass it on, if you do not like it- please let me know- I would love to hear from you.

This guys sounds really smart and his hair is amazing... some would say glorious.

OK, it is actually me, something was wrong with the comment settings so no one could leave comments. It seems like I got it right, so please leave some comments.

Frank, I hope your letter reaches someone in charge of this disaster ASAP but I have doubts and one has to question why would he not take your advise? It seems that Barry does not want to be shown up by someone other than BP or staff. Why? I think if you do some research you'll find your answers. I'll hold out hope for you as to fix this problem.

Goldman Sacs sold off 4.68 million shares of BP stock 2 days prior to oil rig explosion. Hmmmmm. Makes one wonder. Big money always wins. And now new taxes are proposed to cover losses. Can you say Manipulation?
Good article on this disaster:

his hair is gorgeous and he would make a great spokesperson more importantly we need some safety and accident specialists. We need people that are hard-working and willing to roll up their sleeves and get to work. Let's use the technology we have to fix this problem. How will this oil impact our seafood industry and the U.S. economy? How will this oil impact the tourism industry? What about the 11 oil workers that died? How come we do not have more vehicles that run on vegetable oil like gov. Arnold Schwartzeneiger's Hummer and Willie Nelson's tour bus? I heard a radio commentary about someone who converted their automobile to run on vegetable oil? How did they do that? Let's start taking action to clean up America and hold the large corporations and the politicians responsible. How did the E.P.A.
allow this to happen?
How was there no turn-off vavle?
How could this of been prevented?

thank you sir; for saying that. i have plenty of LSD, maybe we can give it to the BP jerkos and the FED as well!
they are a bunch of liars!
create the problem in secret offer a lame solution in public. we have seen this over and over. when will this sleepy and stupid country wake up???
anybody? anybody? bueller?

ps.... veggie oil is NOT new(google is a useful tool). wake up people its 2010, time to move at light speed. get of your overweight and under educated rumps and get active. DO SOMETHING.. anything, but move... move now.

pss.... check out BP's "glorious" history. they used to be the anglo persian oil company.... read the history of how the raped iran. so, do you think they give a shit about the environment or people living in that environment?....

I am seriously beginning to think they really don't want to fix the problem. One viewer mentioned stock shares being sold, another mentioned that bp used to be the "anglo persian" oil company...perhaps bp has some hidden agenda (paid off) bc it sure looks like their efforts are half-hearted...and whose really monitoring the specifics of their work? Mr. Rocket Scientist, why from an engineering point of view did the mud (that had other non-mud parts in it) not halt the reduce the oil flow? why did they have to wait to see if it was working?
why is there not a communing of the greatest engineering minds to solve this?
surely, the cap (pipe) that went inside the oil pipe was built to the inner width of that pipe? why didn't they build it with a sliding tube that would go on the outside of both pipes to minimize leaks?
what are some of your ideas?
has anyone thought of what will happen to the freshwater and water supply once a storm moves this mess over land...not to mention the potential health hazards to those in its path?

Everyone thinks they can fix it, but the point is nothing this bad has happened before and its trial and error. I love the ones who are just like, I'll dive down there and fix it, give me 20 mins. Good luck with that people, its 5,000 feet down. Things don't work the same under the massive pressures at that depth. Instead everyone wants to blame Obama and play it out to be some evil plot by the great NWO.

So, author of the article, why not post your great idea here? You say, I can fix it, I can fix it, I work on stuff for space, well post your idea for your peers to review and see if its feasible instead of saying you have an idea and then hoarding it.

I don't claim to know much but I do know that to use dispersants is very counter-productive. They will particalize the mess into smaller messes, to sink to the bottom and poison bottom-feeders and on the way down, they will smother fish by collecting in their gills...But who gives a damn, they will help get the MESS OUT OF SIGHT.

madranger said...

Absorbent material, skimmers, and absorbent booms pulled onto wringers mounted on gathering vessels, to be wrung out and then returned to the water and re-used might be considered.

But one thing is curtain; dispersants will do the same thing soap would in the kitchen sink if the slop is not drained...it will become scum.

How do you drain the Oceans?

P.S.
I'll let Frank plug the gusher. I'm not a rocket scientist.

This recent "cap" is not, at this stage, much improvement. Remember, by cutting the pipe there was a greater amount of oil released so the small amount which is now being captured is probably equal to the same amount that was spewing before the pipe was cut! To me, this isn't an acceptable amount (1/10)...what will they do now to really contain it and prevent it from mucking up the rest of the shores and area? again, how can we trust bp to really be doing a good job when they've been lying from the beginning (incl their preparation docs)? do we have any engineers at least looking over their shoulders?

Thank you for all the great comments. I am about to get on a plane to Seattle, but I will try and respond to all the comments now. Anonymous 1- brilliant (I posted it so I admit I am biased)
Anonymous 2- thanks for the vote of confidence. I am not the only one who can do this. Just the best looking.
Anonymous 3- I do not have the time right now to read the article or verify your comment, but just ask yourself what makes the most sense (Hark’s rule- corollary 2-I’ll post on this sometime)
Fininfo- agree- It is obvious that there were ways to prevent this failure and if we could go back it would be much cheaper to put them in place beforehand. An ounce of prevention is worth $2 billion of cure.
Wavemantra- agreed
Wavemantra- People are general good- we have been misinformed. I cannot believe that the executives of BP are evil. I believe they hired the wrong people or the system is flawed. The suffered from a form of bias that occurs in large corporations or at least I hope so.
Jean- Is this Jean (moving to London) I know or another beautiful girl I have not yet had the pleasure to meet? I cannot believe that kind of evil exists in my world. From an engineering point of view I am assuming that the pressures involved (the pressure of the oil spraying into the ocean are higher than the cohesiveness of the mud.) When you are involved in a never before experienced event you are riding on the seat of your pants and you learn as you go. I deal more with space and launch vehicles. My experience is not with under-water drilling. I only offer my services to BP since what they have done so far tells me that they do not have a handle on the situation. I did just hear that Johnson Space Center is now involved so hopeful the big brains there will end the madness. From what I see many people under-estimated the probability of occurrence. At the very least they should lose their jobs. Perhaps some should go to jails. Whatever happened to pride in your job or accountability? Thanks for the comments.

Anonymous 4- Thank you sir for being the first to call me out. My point is that a can do attitude will do more in this situation that the “the world is ending and all is lost” mentality. The possible that this could occur was oblivious, at least to me. Trust me, I have to believe that if any of the oil companies could have been spending 1% of their monstrous profits in there exist before this failure occurred they wish they could. As complicated as this is with the technical challenges at depth, it is still a plumbing problem. Let’s not over complicate the issue.
I have a job, a great job that serves humanity. As soon as I am hired, by any company, I will work on a solution.
Madranger- Agreed. Step 1 in problem solving- do no harm.
Jean, what upsets me more is when the president said that BP can handle it. Let’s put a carrier battle group there. Allow the NAVY, Coast Guard, and EPA oversight. Put a couple of Subs in the water. Do not leave this to a corporation. Let’s put fines and criminal investigations into play. I recently heard that James Cameron offered his help and was rejected. What?!?
Again, thanks for all the comments and keep them coming. I will be posting more this week.
