Smoking

So I recently quit smoking. Now that it has been over two months I feel the need to share my experiences. I had my first cigarette when I was 14 years old. Please remember that there is almost no positive thing about smoking. It should be obvious how I feel. No one should smoke. Most smokers know it is bad and want to quit, but it is harder to quit than heroin*. I do not belittle anyone who has tried and failed. I made the joke many times in the past "Quitting smoking is easy- I do it all the time" I don't know who original said it, Mark Twain I think, but it does say something fundamental. Trying to quit something is easy, it is the follow through that is hard. I will be writing more about this in the future. If you agree or disagree, please let me know. I'd love to hear from you. If you enjoyed this, forward it on. More to follow...

I was never a smoker and don't know exactly what it is like to try to quit. But, choosing to smoke or not has something in common with all choices we make--they are all choices. A persons actions are directly related their value system. Smoking demonstrates that ones future, health, budget and many other things are of lower value than the five minutes fix.

I don't want go give the impression that I am being judgmental of smokers, however. When Rocketscientist was smoking, he was no less of a friend then he is now.

The point is that acknowledging that an action is bad is merely labeling it, but taking to heart the full consequences of the action can empower one make the right choice. Choosing not to smoke is choosing a longer happier life and probably an extra thousand dollars a year.

I totally agree. What helped me quit was a shift in my mental perception of smoking. I want to be the best in everything I do. I want to be a good role model for my friends and family. Especially to my sister's kids.
